International Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)
Clients of ESUPERFUND are permitted to invest in International Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). ETFs over international indices were launched on the ASX in 2007. ETFs can provide investors with a low cost and easy way to gain international exposure to both established and emerging markets while investors can take comfort that they trade and settle on the ASX just like any other share. Conventional International ETFs seek to replicate the performance of the overseas index and are traded and settled on the ASX in Australian dollars. As the current range of International ETFs are not hedged, fluctuations in the exchange rate can affect the value of the portfolio. The range of conventional international ETFs was expanded in 2009 to include a range of international sector ETFs. Sector ETFs can assist investors build their portfolios to allow for increased exposure to certain industries while still achieving a broad diversification across companies. The current issuers of conventional international ETFs are iShares and Vanguard Investments.
How to invest in International Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)
You can buy and sell International Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) conveniently online using either the CommSec or EBROKING Trading Platforms established when your SMSF is established. Importantly when your SMSF Share Trading Account is established as part of the SMSF Setup process it is automatically enabled to allow you to trade International (and other) Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). Accessing Information by ESUPERFUND
At the end of each financial year, both CommSec and EBROKING will send to ESUPERFUND an annual data file of all your SMSF trades and transactions including Exchange Traded Funds. This enables our office to attend to your SMSF's annual compliance obligations. No records are required from you each year as we already have access to this data. It is important to understand that only electronic data files are provided to ESUPERFUND. ESUPERFUND have absolutely no access to your Trading Platform and cannot actually login to your Trading Account to access the required data.
