Metals & Commodity ETCs

Exchange Traded Commodities (ETCs)

ESUPERFUND clients are permitted to trade Metals and Commodities using Exchange Traded Commodities (ETCs).  ETC's allow your SMSF to invest in Gold, Silver and other Commodities.  ETCs track the performance of an underlying physical Commodity or Commodity Index allowing investors to gain direct exposure to the underlying Commodity without the need to trade futures or take physical delivery of the Commodity.  Aside from the underlying asset, ETCs are very much like Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and are traded and settled on the ASX, just like shares, making them both accessible and affordable.  Further details can be found here.

How do I invest in Exchange Traded Commodities?

You can buy and sell Exchange Traded Commodities conveniently online using the CommSec or EBROKING Trading Platforms established when your SMSF is established.  Importantly when your SMSF Share Trading Account is established as part of the SMSF Setup process it is automatically enabled to allow you to trade in ETCs.

Accessing Information by ESUPERFUND

At the end of each financial year, both CommSec and EBROKING will send to ESUPERFUND an annual data file of all your SMSF trades and transactions including Exchange Traded Commodities (ETCs).  This enables our office to attend to your SMSF annual compliance obligations.  No records are required from you each year as we already have access to this data.  It is important to understand that only electronic data files are provided to ESUPERFUND.  We have absolutely no access to your Trading Platform and cannot actually login to your Trading Account to access the required data.
