Options Trading
Clients of ESUPERFUND are permitted to trade Options with their SMSF.
Which Broker must I use to Trade Options
All Options Trades must be executed using the CommSec or EBROKING Trading Platforms depending on which Broker your SMSF is using to trade Australian Shares. That is if you are currently trading Australian Shares with CommSec then you must trade Options using the CommSec Trading Platform. Alternatively, if you are currently trading Australian Shares with EBROKING then you must trade Options using the EBROKING Trading Platform
Applying for an Options Account
Once your SMSF has been established by ESUPERFUND, you can apply to establish an Options Trading Account with CommSec or EBROKING, depending on which Broker your SMSF is using to trade Australian Shares.
When can I start Trading Options
When you apply to establish an Options Trading Account, ESUPERFUND will forward to you a prepopulated Options Trading Application for signing. On returning the prepopulated Options Trading Application sent to you for signing, your Options Trading Account will be established by the selected Broker. Details of the Account Setup will be provided to you directly by CommSec or EBROKING on the Account Setup. The process can take 1-2 weeks to finalise.
Brokerage Rates
The Brokerage Rates for the Commsec and EBROKING Trading Platforms vary and should be considered carefully prior to making your Broker choice. Brokerage Rates can be found here.
Only you can transact and access the Options Account
Importantly ESUPERFUND has absolutely no ability to enter or transact on either the CommSec or EBROKING Options Trading Platform. Only you as the SMSF Trustee can login and transact on the Options Account. This gives you total peace of mind that your Super Benefit is totally secure.
Accessing information by ESUPERFUND
At the end of each financial year, both CommSec and EBROKING will send to ESUPERFUND an annual data file of all your SMSF Options Trades and Transactions. This enables our office to attend to your SMSF's annual compliance obligations. No records are required from you each year as we already have access to the data. It is important to understand that only electronic data files are provided to ESUPERFUND. As detailed above we have absolutely no access to your Account and cannot actually login to your Broker Options Trading Account to access the required data.
Avoid Audit Issues
One of the common errors identified by the ATO is clients establishing Broker Accounts in their personal name and not the name there SMSF resulting in ATO compliance issues. By establishing the Options Broker Account for your SMSF we ensure that the Options Trading Account is setup correctly. This ensures that ATO compliance issues and associated penalties are eliminated and that all Options Trading Accounts setup by ESUPERFUND are compliant with Super Regulations.
ESUPERFUND provides No Investment Advice
ESUPERFUND do not provide Investment advice and cannot advise you on which Options to purchase or sell in your SMSF. You as the Fund Trustee are responsible for making all Trading decisions for your Fund, based on your SMSF's particular financial situation and needs.
