How it Works

Warrants Trading

Clients of ESUPERFUND are permitted to trade Warrants with their SMSF.

Which Broker must I use to Trade Warrants?

All Warrants Trades must be executed using the CommSec or EBROKING Trading Platforms depending on which Broker your SMSF is using to trade Australian Shares.  That is if you are currently trading Australian Shares with CommSec then you must trade Warrants using the CommSec Trading Platform.  Alternatively, if you are currently trading Australian Shares with EBROKING, then you must trade Warrants using the EBROKING Trading Platform

Applying for a Warrants Account

Once your SMSF has been established by ESUPERFUND you can apply to establish a Warrants Trading Account with CommSec or EBROKING, depending on which Broker your SMSF is using to trade Australian Shares.

When can I start Trading Warrants

When you apply to establish a Warrants Trading Account, ESUPERFUND will forward to you a prepopulated Warrants Trading Application for signing.  On returning the prepopulated Warrants Trading Application sent to you for signing, your Warrants Trading Account will be established by the selected Broker.  Details of the Account Setup will be provided to you directly by CommSec or EBROKING on the Account Setup.  The process can take 1-2 weeks to finalise.

Warrants Application via Prospectus

Clients of ESUPERFUND can alternatively invest in Warrants via a Prospectus (this includes all equity warrants such as self funding instalment warrants). In this case clients simply need to complete the Prospectus Application for the Warrant and lodge the Application with the Issuer of the Warrant.

Brokerage Rates

The Brokerage Rates for each Warrants Trading Platform vary and should be considered carefully prior to making your Broker choice.  Brokerage Rates on Warrants can be found here.

Only you can transact and access the Warrants Account

Importantly ESUPERFUND has absolutely no ability to enter or transact on either the CommSec or EBROKING Warrants Trading Platform.  Only you as the SMSF Trustee can login and transact on the Warrants Account.  This gives you total peace of mind that your Super Benefit is totally secure.

Accessing information by ESUPERFUND

At the end of each financial year, both CommSec and EBROKING will send to ESUPERFUND an annual data file of all your SMSF Warrants Trades and Transactions.  This enables our office to attend to your SMSF's annual compliance obligations.  No records are required from you each year as we already have access to the data.  It is important to understand that only electronic data files are provided to ESUPERFUND.  As detailed above we have absolutely no access to your Account and cannot actually login to your Broker Warrants Trading Account to access the required data.

Avoid Audit Issues

One of the common errors identified by the ATO is clients establishing Broker Accounts in their personal name and not the name there SMSF resulting in ATO compliance issues.  By establishing the Warrants Broker Account for your SMSF we ensure that the Warrants Trading Account is setup correctly.  This ensures that ATO compliance issues and associated penalties are eliminated and that all Warrants Trading Accounts setup by ESUPERFUND are compliant with Super Regulations.

ESUPERFUND provides No Investment Advice

ESUPERFUND do not provide Investment advice and cannot advise you on which Warrants to purchase or sell in your SMSF.  You as the SMSF Trustee are responsible for making all Trading decisions for your SMSF, based on your SMSF's particular financial situation and needs.
